The FREIXA RIGAU cellar in Capmany, whose name is a tribute to the family’s surnames, is one of the oldest ones in the area. Its exceptional location sets it apart from the large groups of companies, and its aim is to produce one of the most highly regarded cavas in the denomination.
Originally, the cellar aged cavas made with free-run juice from the traditional varieties: Xarel.lo, Parellada and Macabeo. However, the founders, aware of modern innovations and the new trends from abroad, rose to the challenge of making high-quality cavas with outside varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Because of the use of the méthode champenoise, the cavas produced under the “Familia Oliveda” and “Gran Rigau” brands represent the height of sophistication among our wines.
